StoryWonk was founded in 2010 by Lani Diane Rich and Alastair Stephens, dedicated to the principle that there is nothing in the world that can’t be made better by a solid command of story. Over the years, StoryWonk built a reputation for analyzing, studying and understanding the force of narrative in not just books, movies and television, but personal relationships, identity politics and pop culture. Story is everywhere, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it. For writers in particular, understanding story in this way is a powerful path to stronger work.
Alastair Stephens is a writer, podcaster and jack-of-all-trades who left behind the untamed wilds of Scotland to journey to the United States. Passionate about the craft and philosophy of storytelling, he’s most often found looking for meaning in the latest bestseller, arguing the merits of various fictional continuities, and petitioning the appropriate people for a new Star Trek TV series. Since November 2010, he has produced more than four hundred hours of podcast content, and has learned more about audio production than he ever thought possible.
Lani Diane Rich is an award-winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of twelve novels. She started podcasting in 2007, and since then, has produced almost a thousand episodes across more than ten different shows. She is an adjunct professor at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School for Public Communications teaching screenwriting and television production.
