It will come as no surprise, I’m sure, that we’re pretty big fans of the Outlander TV show here at StoryWonk — so much so that when the Season One Ultimate Collector’s Edition went on sale on Amazon, we couldn’t resist it, despite already owning boxed copies of the first and second halves of the season. Who can resist an Outlander-themed flask and extra treats?
The package from Amazon arrived this morning, so this is our first peek at what’s inside. We’ll take a look at the new special features and talk a little more about the entire package on the next episode of The Scot and the Sassenach, coming soon!
So this is the package as it arrives, the keepsake box protected by the wrap-around paper envelope. Beautiful!
A close up on that logo we’ve all come to know and love. The thistle emblem is embossed, and the box itself feels heavy and well-made.
The back of the paper sleeve, detailing all the goodies inside! As silly as it may seem, I guarantee the Outlander video yule log will get some play over the holidays!
My beautiful assistant Lani pulls out the keepsake drawer, revealing a protective envelope…
… within which we find the frame and the stills from the show. The choices are a little predictable, but you can’t blame them for playing to the show’s strengths. Surprised that we didn’t get the Jamie-in-his-shirt-on-the-wedding-night shot.
The rest of the stills. Which is your favorite?
Then comes the flask itself, inscribed — in this instance — with the timeless words of Clan Fraser. I know that there are different versions of the flask, but this is the one that we wanted. There shall be a wee nip of something refreshing come Hogmanay!
Below the frame is a beautifully-produced book containing the discs, more photography and brief quotes from the production team. Guess which page Lani turned to first?
And both volumes of the soundtrack! We bought the digital versions when they were released, but it’s good to have the CD versions too!
And that’s the whole set. It might be a little expensive at $165, the list price on Amazon, but for as long as it’s available for $55, it’s a great deal — particularly if you don’t already own the Blu-Ray versions!
